As one of the UK’s longest-established pony party businesses, I’ve learned a thing or two about hosting fabulous celebrations throughout the year. Winter parties (roughly 20th October to 20th March) hold their own special magic here in our peaceful Kelsall orchard – crisp air, rosy cheeks, and the thrill of cuddling warm ponies on a chilly day. But I’m also realistic: I want you and your children to have the most wonderful time possible, and sometimes the weather has other ideas!
I also need to care for my lovely lawn, which simply can’t withstand lots of feet during the wetter months. So I’ve created several flexible options to ensure your celebration is stress-free and perfectly suited to winter conditions.
Your Winter Unicorn Party Options
Full Winter Unicorn Parties You can still book any of the parties from my main summer brochure. My marquee provides shelter if needed, and with the right clothing (more on that below!), winter parties can be absolutely magical. I do limit numbers to 12 including adults during winter months – this ensures everyone can shelter comfortably in the marquee if weather turns inclement, and helps preserve our beautiful grounds.
Unicorn Party with Tea Elsewhere A wonderfully sensible option, especially for December and January when heating the marquee sufficiently can be challenging. Come here for the unicorn party your children will adore, then head home or to a nearby venue for party tea in cosy comfort.
Intimate Pony or Unicorn Experiences Perfect for smaller celebrations! Bring a group of one to four children for a focused pony or unicorn experience. These don’t include party tea time, making them ideal for a special outing rather than a full party.
Unicorn Gift Vouchers Grandparents and aunties love these! Personalised gift vouchers mean you can celebrate now but visit during warmer weather when you prefer. I can even include a gorgeous soft toy unicorn so there’s something tangible to unwrap on the big day.
Chocolate Crafting & Tasting Parties A delicious alternative suitable from age 5 through to teens! I can host these at your home, a venue near you, or at a private hire venue local to Kelsall. These parties can accommodate larger groups – from 8 chilren up to around 24 children – perfect for bigger celebrations.
A Note About Parties for 3 and 4 Year olds
I don’t generally recommend full parties with party tea for preschoolers mid-November through to mid-February, as our youngest guests aren’t quite as resilient to the cold as school-age children. However, the shorter experiences can work beautifully! My signature pony experience with the enchanting put the pony to bed option is an hour and a quarter and is a lovely first introduction to ponies or unicorns.
Weather Flexibility & Safety
I’m genuinely flexible about deposits during winter because I want this to be stress-free for you. We go ahead unless weather conditions are exceptional. If high winds, snow, or ice make it unsafe, I’ll cancel and offer you either a full refund or the option to use your deposit for a future activity.
I also monitor forecasts closely. If conditions look unpleasant rather than unsafe – perhaps bitterly cold or heavily raining – I’ll contact you with the option to defer to another date. After all, I want the children to have fun, and that’s rather tricky when everyone’s miserable!
The Secret to Winter Unicorn Party Success: Proper Clothing!
Having hosted many wonderful winter parties over the years – including a number of birthday celebrations for 3 year olds – I’ve discovered the key to everyone having a brilliant time: wearing the right clothing.
Fashion clothing, whilst pretty, simply isn’t designed to keep you warm and dry outdoors. Here’s what really works:
- Waterproof jacket (can go over a fashion coat) – keeps rain and wind out
- Waterproof trousers – absolute game-changer!
- Waterproof all in ones – just brilliant for three year olds!
- Wellies with two pairs of socks
- Hat and gloves
- Layers underneath –eg vest, t-shirt, thin top, jumper work wonders
With proper outdoor gear, children stay comfortable, parents stay happy, and the magic of our pony parties shines through whatever the weather brings.
